I made this little bench as a gift for my mother this week. This is a really simple D.I.Y. on how to spice up those plain, little foot stools. This one my brother made for her in middle school so, she wanted to keep it. After this paint job, it brings warmth to our country home.
First, flip the bench upside down and paint a coat of white or beige paint on all sides. This is shown in the "before" picture. Next, use an accent color that you plan to use in your painting. With a dry brush, add quick and blended strokes randomly throughout. You don't want it to look in any way planned. You want to make sure your strokes all go in generally the same direction, too.
Do the same thing with another shade of paint.
Then, flip the bench right side up and paint white or beige on top. Next, paint your scene or decorate the top of the bench. You could even just do the top the same as the sides and bottom and it would still work. I chose to do this scene because it is what my mother requested. This project only took me a few hours and made my mother really happy. It's amazing what a coat of paint can do!
Enjoy!
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
