Saturday's Sweets: Apple Crisp

If you are looking for a delicious recipe that just wafts out the scents of fall, this is it. This apple crisp recipe is melt in your mouth good and is a great way to kick of the season. You probably already have the ingredients, too.

Stop by your local farmer's market and pick up  some fresh apples. I'm not even sure what kind we got, but if you know what kind is good for apple crisp get those. I'm sure it will taste great either way. This recipe is really just Betty Crocker's recipe. Click the link for the actual measurements if you wish. I didn't follow it very closely, though.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Peel your apples.

Next, slice your apples into chunks. Place is a greased 8x8 pan.

Mix together about 3/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of oats, 1 stick of butter. Add cinnamon and nutmeg, too. Sprinkle this on top of the apples. We sprinkled some of this onto the apples before we put them in the pan, too.

Bake for 30 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is crisp. Cover with tinfoil half way through if needed.

Enjoy!

Changing With The Seasons

Since fall is a season dedicated to change, I'm taking some time to see how far I've come in a year.
This is my post from a year ago today.
This time last year I was just settling into my Freshman year of college, and had received a promise ring from my boyfriend.
This year, I'm a peer mentor and helping freshmen settle into school, and have two sweet little rings!

What were you doing at this time last year?

Fall Pinspiration

This is a wonderful little collaboration of a few of the pictures I found on pinterest. These are the kind of pictures that make you feel all cozy and force you to completely embrace fall.
Enjoy!

One of the reasons I love fall so much might be because every autumn color is one of my favorite colors. So, this time of year is covered in beautiful hues and color combinations. These pictures make me grab all of my cozy sweaters and scarf combinations and cuddle up for a cup of tea.

Country Coffee

Fall is my all time favorite season. Everything about it I absolutely love.
In high school, my best friend Kacie and I would eagerly wait for autumn to come, bringing it's crisp air and crunchy leaves.

My all time favorite memories of fall during school involved our after school adventures. Everyday as soon as school ended, we would get dropped off at Kacie's house and immediately make coffee. We would then pour in our delicious pumpkin spice creamer, or drop in a thin-mint or mini-candy bar for flavor. Every single day this would happen. I can't drink a cup of coffee in the fall without thinking about it. There is something so warm and cozy about cuddling up with a cup of coffee. We would follow our cups of coffee with slow, country walks in our scarves and hats, where we would talk about how beautiful everything is and how everything about autumn feels right.

We lived just about a mile apart. So, our bus driver knew enough to drop us off at each other's houses. Every so often we would get a substitute bus driver who would insist on dropping us off at our own houses for "safety reasons". When this happened, I would make a point of walking immediately in the other direction as soon as my feet hit the ground. A lot safer, huh?

I'm going to go make a cup of pumpkin spice coffee now.

D.I.Y. Clothespin Magnet

I don't know if anybody remember these little magnet clothespins I made last year or not. All you do to make them is cut out pieces of newspaper or pages and glue them to the top of your clothespin. Then, decorate however you'd like and glue a magnet onto the back. I use them all the time.

I put one over our clip of menus on the mini fridge.

And another one over our cleaning check list.

This is just a quick little project that is very easy to personalize.
 Functional and cute.

What Happens When...

What happens when I leave for school for a few weeks and then come home:
Beautiful little flowers bloom.
I planted this precious little beauty after it have been living on the windowsill for months. My mother thought it was dead and gave it to me to try and save. Well, look what miracles happen when you are not looking.

The garden fills up with weeds.
My garden was in desperate need of some love. I happily got on my gardening gloves and began pulling weeds only to be swarmed by all of the chickens wanting to help.

At first, they started scraping weeds out with their claws....then they started ripping out flowers. Either way, it was nice to have some company.
All they wanted was a little attention.

Hope everyone is having an amazing day.

Sunday's Sweets : Owl Cupcakes

Good Morning, everyone! These are the adorable little cupcakes that my brother wanted for his birthday. This isn't so much of a recipe as it is inspiration for how to decorate your cupcakes. I brought them to the Labor Day Party and they were gone in no time, too.

You'll need:
chocolate cupcakes
chocolate frosting
M&Ms
Oreos

This is really simple. You just separate the oreos by twisting them, and keep the frosting covered oreo from each pair of cookies. I saved the plain cookies to use for milkshakes or something later. Then, you just lay the oreos , stuffed side up, on the frosting. Add your M&M eyes and a little yellow beak. The only problem is they don't all fit together as owls, some had to be plain.

I know I usually do Saturday's Sweets but today is my brother's 18th birthday!

Late Labor Day

These are some photos from our little Labor Day get together at my Grandpa's last weekend. I know i'm more than a little late here but, better late then never. Also, I have been swamped this week at school and this is literally the first chance I've had to post!

My Grandpa hasn't had a bonfire party like this in years. The last time I remember having one was when I was a little girl. He didn't even let us know about it until the day before, either. Regardless, we were all happy to get together and have a little end of the summer shebang.

I hope everyone had an amazing Labor Day weekend surrounded by their loved ones!
