This beautiful lady is my Great Grandmother. She passed away this winter at the age of 99 and we all miss her quite terribly. This amazing woman is the head of our very (VERY) large Portuguese family and it is no secret that she loved to cook.
All of my memories of her involve sitting at her kitchen table at any hour of the day and being surrounded by freshly made baked goods with a huge meal on the way. She was always over the stove and she always insisted that we eat more.
Here is a photo of a part of our family at her 99th Birthday Party.
When she passed, she left behind so many boxes and bags of cook books that I couldn't even count them all let alone look through them all. I did get a chance to paw through about five bags, though. I was in my glory, let me tell you. I'm a sucker for old cook books and recipes of any kind. I tried to limit myself to taking only a few and ended up with a bag full to take home.
These are only a few of the books I ended up taking. I even managed to get away with some of her hand written recipes! I cannot wait to crack them open and start trying some of them.
And I finally found an apartment where I can keep my collection of cook books and actually cook dinner once in a while (eeeek!!) More on that later.
I love all of my cook books. I couldn't pick a favorite if I tried.
What is your favorite cook book?
Hi, Amanda. Thank you "sew" much for visiting my blog and for your lovely comment. While I was reading the post about your great grandmother and about your (and her) cookbooks, I was reminded of the film Julie & Julia. Have you seen it?
ReplyDeleteI expect you to be posting some recipes soon, missie! You are too lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteI love cookbooks also, I have some that belonged to my mother and a few from my grandmother. Looks like you found some good ones :)
